Back in the USA after visiting our family and friends in the UK.

I would love to share a little of our ‘vacation’

Starting with the Yorkshire dales, yes it was a little windy and rainy when we arrived, as we would have expected at this time of the year. With the Lake District to the  west, and the North Yorkshire Moors to the east, the North Yorkshire Dales are the most central of three striking areas of  natural beauty in the north of England.

In the heart of the ‘Dales’ is the home of the Bronte sisters Emily, Anne and Charlotte who were  born in Thornton  Bradford but raised in Haworth, Yorkshire. The three sisters produced such classics as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

From here I took the train into Leeds for a little retail therapy and to meet have drinks and dinner with two of my girlfriends at one of my favourite french restaurants. www.souslenez.com

We then drove south to St Albans, a city in south Hertfordshire, north of central London. It is a historic market town welll within the commuter belt to London. Saint Alban, was the first British Christian martyr, was beheaded in AD 308.

What a revelation this City was.  The City of St. Alban’s had really everything including history, tradition, markets and an abundance of high street shops; that included: Hobbs, The White Stuff, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, Topshop, Jigsaw, River Island, Monsoon and Reiss amongst others. Exclusive boutiques including, ‘The Dressing Room,’ multiple Draper Award Winners.

After all the sightseeing and checking out the shops, we were in need of drinks and dinner.

The White Hart is a charming timbered old coaching inn located in the heart of St Albans dating back to the 16th century offering inexpensive accommodation, bar and Tudors restaurant.

The hotel is one of the oldest buildings in St Albans and is situated opposite the ancient Cathedral and Abbey and is ideal for exploring the city.

I honestly can say that we will defintely be back to St Albans. Our daughter and Son-in-Law easily managed the journey by train from London. Our son and daughter-in-law drove from their home on the Suffolk/Essex border.

Time to head back to Yorkshire, to visit more friends and family and a spot of retail therapy at Meadowhall Sheffield. Once extra purchase was a holdall to accomodate the gifts we received, plus other treats for Christmas. A great time was had by all.

UNTIL THE NEXT TIME!

Homeward bound to Atlanta. Now what shall I get my hubby for Christmas?
