Just because a woman is over the age of consent and nearer the half century than 21 does not mean that she is ‘Over the Hill Yet,’ indeed it’s quite the opposite.

Women of a certain age, know their body shape, know what suits them, are confident enough to take risks, don’t follow the crowd or the trends, they make their own trends.

You only have to look at fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood for a lesson in producing the unexpected. Whether it be bold prints, colour or her unique designs. She has drawn uncommonly wide acclaim from the extremes of the street and the establishment.  Despite the fact that she is now 70, she shows no intention of slowing down.

Vivienne Westwood virtually invented punk and picked up her OBE from the Queen wearing ‘no knickers’. I would hope that Her Majesty managed more than a raised eyebrow!

For further inspiration look no further than zany designer Zandra Rhodes

She was one of the new wave of British designers who put London at the forefront of the international fashion scene in the 1970’s. Her unique use of bold prints, fiercely feminine patterns and theatrical use of colour has given her garments a timeless quality that makes them unmistakably a Rhodes creation and still very much in demand today.

Diane Von Furstenberg the inventor of the wrap dress, a style to suit every woman, its flattering, sexy shape can adorn any age or size from the androgynous to the fuller figure.

From designers to actresses. One particular ‘lady’ I admire greatly is Helen Mirren. Whether on screen, stage or red carpet.

Who can ever forget the film ‘The Calendar Girls‘ Click the link below for a reminder.

Another woman who I love to followFashion icon of the 1960s and one of the first supermodels, Twiggy now 62 years young, she remains at the forefront of fashion for women of her age. She was the only one of the famous celebrities to survive being cut from the Mark & Spencer fashion team in 2010.

All of these women exude radiance and confidence and are happy in their own skin, most certainly are not afraid to show it off.

One of my favourite blogs – http:advancedstyle.blogspot.com

“Proof from the wise and silver haired set that personal style advances with age is” .

This is such as awesome blog, the photographs are vintage heaven, these ladies clearly love life and are not afraid to make a statement about ‘their individual style’

So, we are “Not over the Hill yet” just because we may have reached a certain age.

Go forth, search the malls, thrift shops, boutiques and bargain rails, find your own style. There are no rules……… just be true to yourself.

Who do you most admire? Who inspires your style?

Send me pictures of your favourite outfits, dresses, accessories. Better still if they have a history.

And Remember:

I intend to make ‘Not Over The Hill Yet’ a regular blog spot. So stay tuned for more inspiration, fashion ideas and up to date info.
